SloViet Connect to Unlock Film Collaboration between Slovenia and Vietnam

As part of a visit by Vietnamese business leaders to Slovenia, a special international event, SloViet Connect: Cinema between Slovenia and Vietnam, will take place at the Festival of Slovenian Film Portorož in Avditorij Portorož on Friday 16 October 2026 at 4:10 pm. The meeting aims to bring together the Slovenian and Vietnamese audiovisual industries and unlock new opportunities for collaboration across film production, distribution, and screening. The event has been organised in collaboration with the Primorska Chamber of Commerce and the company Vinakoper.

The cinematic part of the event offers a rare opportunity to watch a contemporary Vietnamese film with a screening of Scent of Pho (Mùi Phở, Minh Beta, Vietnam, 2026, 111 mins), a family comedy with a culinary twist. At the heart of the story is a dedicated pho master who chooses his young grandson as the successor to the renowned family business. His wilful ways threaten to tear apart his multigenerational family, but behind the disagreements and arguments, hidden secrets gradually unfold, revealing a heartfelt journey to rediscover family warmth through humorous, charming, and delightfully witty moments. The film will be screened with English subtitles. Tickets are already available online.

The screening will be followed by a discussion and a meeting with the Vietnamese delegation, led by the film’s director, Minh Beta, a filmmaker, producer, and chairman of Beta Cinemas, a leading Vietnamese company for film production, distribution, and cinema management. As Beta Cinemas is seen as the fastest-growing cinema chain in the world, this event will also provide an opportunity to explore new distribution paths for Slovenian films in the vast but still lesser-known Vietnamese market. The event will be chaired by producer Aleš Pavlin.
